Nathan Freke has turned his season around to boast a healthy Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup lead and aims to increase it as the championship heads to Snetterton this weekend. As the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup heads to Snetterton for a crucial weekend of three races, Kidderminster's Nathan Freke is the man to beat. Since his season began with podium results rather than winning pace, the former Formula Ford champion has been edging closer to the front of the pack. His wins started at Donington in May, where he won all three races...and won the sole race at Oulton Park before taking two further victories at Croft.

His winning form has coincided with disappointment for early-season championship leader Carl Breeze. His TCR car won four out of the first six races, but then Breeze suffered a mighty accident at Oulton Park when he spun at Old Hall and was t-boned by the Speedworks car of Mark Proctor. It left the TCR squad with a huge job to prepare a brand new car in less than a fortnight, but Carl then suffered another setback: he hit a tyre stack in race two and was forced to sit out race three in North Yorkshire.

That means that Freke heads Frank Wrathall in the title race, Frank lying 52 points adrift, but that could all change with three races this weekend and 35 points for a win. Wrathall is still in with a  shout of the title and while he may not have been on the top step of the podium as often as others, his consistency has marked him out as a real threat to Freke. King's Lynn's Breeze, eager to score well on home ground, lies third whilst Speedworks team owner Christian Dick is fourth after a consistent season.

Other front-runners, Tom Sharp and Fulvio Mussi, will be joined by series rookie Charlie Butler-Henderson this weekend as the ex-BTCC racer returns to sports cars. The Chairman's Cup, for the over 40s, is headed by multiple National Hot Rod World Champion Colin White from fellow ex-oval racer Paul Sheard and Richard Sykes.

Qualifying begins at 10:45 on Saturday August 1 with race one (over 11 laps) starting at 13:45. A second, longer, race on Saturday is scheduled for 17:15 over 18 laps and Sunday boasts the final race at 13:35, round 17 of the championship.
